Overview


This guide is to serve as a reference for installation of V-Ray for Unreal.

If you experience any problems, please contact our support team.

A complete installation of V-Ray for Unreal consists of:

  • V-Ray
  • V-Ray license server
  • Online Licensing Documentation

 

In order to complete a full installation of V-Ray for Unreal, you can do one of 2 options:

  • run the provided installer
  • use the provided zip file


The V-Ray license server and the link to set up the license will be automatically installed.


 

Before installing V-Ray for Unreal make sure you do not have the Unreal Editor or the Epic Launcher running.

 

Installing V-Ray for Unreal with Installer


To install V-Ray for Unreal make sure your Windows account has administrative privileges and double-click the VRayForUnreal.exe to run it:


To complete the installation follow these steps:

 

 

1.You will be presented with the V-Ray licensing agreement. Please take a moment to review the agreement. Click the I Agree button to proceed:



 

2. Next, you can select the installation type. The installer should detect the root folder automatically for the versions of Unreal you have selected. You can also choose to customize the installation. If you choose to install V-Ray as Standalone render slave the "Customize" button will become unavailable and V-Ray will be installed in C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray for Unreal.

 

 

3. If you have selected the Workstation installation, you will see the full list of customizable settings for Unreal Engine: 

a. Install V-Ray for Unreal Engine 4.XX– specifies for which version of Unreal Engine V-Ray should be installed. 

c. Unreal Engine 4.XX plugins location – specifies the path of the Plugins folder.



 

4. After you choose the installation type you can click the “Next” button and adjust the additional installation settings:

License Server X.X.X - Enables the installation of the license server.

How are you going to connect to the V-Ray license server? – Specifies whether the V-Ray license server will run locally or on another machine.

If you select the option Remote V-Ray license server on the network, you will have to fill in the IP address of your V-Ray license server in the field Primary License Server. Please leave the port 30304 unchanged.

 

 




5. Click Install Now to begin the installation.




6. If the installation was successful, you will get this screen. Press the “Finish” button.

 

 

V-Ray License Server


After installing V-Ray, the V-Ray License Server installation window will appear next.

Installing V-Ray for Unreal with ZIP File


To complete the installation you can do one of the following steps:

  • Copy ThirdParty folder to VRayForUnreal plugin.
  • Use Environment variables.


Installing by copying ThirdParty folder to VRayForUnreal plugin


1. Open the zip file. Inside you will see three folders - UE_4.18, UE_4.19 and ThirdParty





2. Choose which version of V-Ray for Unreal you wish to install. Open the appropriate folder.

3. Inside you will see VRayForUnreal folder. Extract that folder to the installation path of Unreal's Plugins folder (Default is C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_4.XX\Plugins).





4. Extract the ThirdParty folder inside the newly created VRayForUnreal folder.





5. Make sure all folders are extracted in their correct location.

6. Your installation of V-Ray for Unreal is complete.

7. Install the license server. For more information, see how to install you license server.


Installing using Environment variables


1. Open the zip file. Inside you will see three folders - UE_4.18, UE_4.19 and ThirdParty.



2. Choose which version of V-Ray for Unreal you wish to install. Open the appropriate folder.

3. Inside you will see VRayForUnreal folder. Extract that folder to the installation path of Unreal's Plugins folder (Default is C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_4.XX\Plugins).





4. Next in ThirdParty folder extract the vrayappsdk to a suitable location (e.g. a server).

5. Create a new system environment variable that point to that location

 

 



6. Make sure all folders are extracted in their correct location.

7. Your installation of V-Ray for Unreal is complete.

8. Install the license server. For more information, see how to install you license server.
