This page provides a library of cloud assets that are created using Chaos Phoenix.
Overview
Here we share a collection of volumetric caches for clouds, simulated using Chaos Phoenix. Each file in *.aur or *.vdb format contains a single frame that can be quickly loaded into your scene through a Phoenix Simulator or a VRayVolumeGrid. Furthermore, with the aid of Chaos Scatter, you can effortlessly craft a cloudscape for your project.
This table provides an overview of three different types of clouds, to help you better understand their appearance and characteristics.
Cumulus | Anvil | Stratus | |
---|---|---|---|
Morphology | They have flat bases and are often described as "puffy" in appearance | A cumulonimbus cloud that has reached a level of stratospheric stability and has formed a characteristic flat, anvil-top shape. | Characterized by horizontal layering with a uniform base, as opposed to cumuliform clouds |
Library
The downloadable cache files contain only volumetric data without any shading setup. To achieve the result from the screenshots below you can download the Cloud Render Preset from here. To learn how to set up shading and assemble the volumetric data into a complete cloudscape scenery, you can follow the Cloudscape with Chaos Scatter tutorial.
Please note that the cloud assets provided are static. If you are searching for animated clouds, we recommend checking out the Animated Clouds tutorial.
Depending on your scene requirements you can pick the volumetric cache according to its grid resolution. For instance, if the cloud is positioned far away from the camera, lower grid resolution is recommended, while close up shots will require higher grid resolution.
