This page covers the basics on getting the Chaos Scans plugin up and running.
Installing Chaos Scans
Chaos Scans does not need to be installed separately as it is automatically installed with the typical V-Ray installation. However, to use a Scans material in a scene, a separate license for the Chaos Scans plugin must be available through your Online license account.
Scans Platforms
Chaos Scans is currently installed with V-Ray on the following platforms:
- Max: V-Ray 6 for 3ds Max, V-Ray 5 for 3ds Max, V-Ray Next for 3ds Max
- Maya: V-Ray 6 for Maya, V-Ray 5 for Maya, V-Ray Next for Maya, V-Ray 3.0 for Maya
- Cinema: V-Ray 6 for Cinema 4D, V-Ray 5 for Cinema 4D
- SketchUp: V-Ray 6 for SketcUp, V-Ray 5 for SketchUp, V-Ray Next for SketchUp, V-Ray 3.6 for SketchUp
- Rhino: V-Ray 6 for Rhino, V-Ray 5 for Rhino, V-Ray Next for Rhino, V-Ray 3.6 for Rhino
- Revit: V-Ray 5 for Revit, V-Ray Next for Revit, V-Ray 3.6 for Revit (with some limitations)
- Houdini: V-Ray 6 for Houdini, V-Ray 5 for Houdini, V-Ray Next for Houdini
- Modo: V-Ray Next for Modo, V-Ray 3.6 for Modo
- Katana: V-Ray Next for Katana
License Setup
Chaos Scans is licensed the same way V-Ray and uses the Online Licensing System (alternatively, for older versions - hardware dongle based license).
Those who already have a dongle for V-Ray will have their Scans license added to their existing dongle which can be updated easily, as shown in the next section of this page. Those with existing Online Licenses will have the Scans license added to their accounts. Online Licensing is outlined below for your information.
Updating an Existing Dongle
If you have additional Scans licenses to an existing USB dongle, it will require reprogramming with a new license file. For more details on how this is done, please see the Dongle Reprogramming page.
