V-Ray Environment Shader Overview

The VRay_Environment_Shader allows you to choose a color and a texture map that can be used to override the default Softimage environment settings during GI and reflection/refraction calculations. If you don't specify a color/map then the background color or map will be used by default.

V-Ray Environment Shader Parameters

Enable - when this option in on V-Ray will override the default Softimage background.

Background Color Override

Multiplier - a multiplier for the Color parameter to control the brightness of the environment map

Color - specifies a color or a texture to act as a background during rendering

GI Environment (Skylight) Override

This group allows you to override the Softimage environment settings for indirect illumination calculations. The effect of changing the GI environment is similar to skylight.

Enable - turns on and off the GI environment override.

Multiplier - a multiplier for the Color parameter to control the brightness of the environment map

Color - lets you specify the environment (skylight) color or GI environment texture.

Reflection/Refraction Environment Override

This group allows you to override Softimage Environment settings when reflections and refractions are calculated. If you do not enable the Refraction override, this group of controls affects both reflections and refractions. If you enable the Refraction override, then this group affects only reflections.

Enable - with this option turned on V-Ray will use the specified color or texture during reflection/refraction calculations.

Multiplier - a multiplier for the Color parameter to control the brightness of the environment map

Color - specifies an environment color or texture to be used when calculating the reflections/refractions

Refraction Environment Override

This group allows to override the environment for refraction rays only. When this override is disabled, V-Ray will use the environment specified in the Reflection/refraction group when calculating refractions.

Enable - enables the environment override for refraction calculations

Multiplier - a multiplier for the Color parameter to control the brightness of the environment map

Color - a color or texture to be used as an environment when calculating the refractions
