SKETCHUP V-RAY FUR V-RAY CLIPPER

This article helps you find why V-Ray for SketchUp buttons Add Fur, Convert to Clipper and Mesh Light can be grayed out. 


Overview


Sometimes the buttons for Mesh Light, Fur and Clipper are grayed out. At first glance this might cause some confusion as to whether or not the tools are actually working/usable.

Cause and Solution


This is a standard and expected behavior linked to the way SketchUp functions and more specifically, to how it handles geometry. In short, geometry, which is not Grouped (Make Group) or made into a Component (Make Component) lacks certain functionalities. To put geometry into Group or Component: 

  1.  Double-click to select a face and its edges; or triple-click to select every face and edge in the asset 

  2. Right-click on it to select either to make a group or a component.
