License Server version 5.0 provides licensing of the Chaos Group products without the need for any physical devices to be plugged in your machine. It allows you to easily activate more licenses right after the purchase and provides a way to stay offline while using your products when you need to. It is still compatible with existing USB dongles, in case you need to use your licenses in this way.
Many of Chaos Group's products can now be licensed with an online system. This allows a lot more flexibility than the previous hardware dongle setup. Hardware licensing is still available for all products but does not provide the fast response for adding more licenses or connecting additional computers to your account like the Online Licensing.
Online Licensing System is a secure way to license certain products online without the need for a physical USB dongle. Online Licensing for all products will be available in the near future. This is a highly-encrypted centralized online system that manages licenses for all your systems.
The Online License System also provides for users to "borrow" licenses from their online accounts and work offline without having a hardware dongle, for up to 14 days at a time.
Traditional dongle-based licensing is based on a hardware (USB) dongle that physically installs on an end user's system or on a machine that acts as a license server for all systems on the network. Dongles are programmed with license numbers into the hardware of the dongle allowing you to manage all the licensing needs across the Chaos Group products.
