VRscans are not created in the same way that typical CG materials are made. Most materials use standard BRDF models like Blinn, Ward, and GGX to estimate the way a material responds to light. The results These approximations can get close, but they're not exact. Instead, VRscans uses BTF measurements to obtain fully capture a material’s unique appearance. We collect all the data needed to render a material's texture, surface reflectivity, dimensionality, and response to light in a single .vrscan file.

Can VRscans material be modified?

...

To preserve the scanned material’s physical accuracy, the a .vrscan file cannot be modified. Additionally, This file contains a complete data set, so there are no separate texture maps. Limited adjustments include: color filtercan be made to color, uv tiling, bump strength, etc. These parameters can be found on the VRayScannedMtl page.
