This page provides information on V-Ray as a plugin to Revit, as well as on rendering with it.

V-Ray in Revit

V-Ray is a rendering plugin for Revit. It adds support for all Revit lights, geometric objects and materials and also introduces a set of features entirely new for Revit itself.

V-Ray is seamlessly integrated in Revit and all its options are available from within the Revit user interface, including Global Illumination and the creation of V-Ray materials, maps and lights. While V-Ray renders standard Revit features, the V-Ray options are designed to work with the V-Ray render engine, and thus improve both image quality and render times.

V-Ray includes two engines: a CPU based and a GPU based. V-Ray renderings display in the V-Ray Virtual Frame Buffer (VFB), which has a multitude of V-Ray specific tools for saving and comparing renderings, adding lens effects, and viewing render elements.

For tools to adjust rendering quality and speed with V-Ray and V-Ray GPU, see the Renderer page.

Rendering with V-Ray

Both V-Ray and V-Ray GPU engines support Production and Interactive Rendering modes. The Production Rendering mode utilizes all V-Ray's features and is intended to be used to create a clean production ready render.

The Interactive Rendering mode is a fast active renderer that updates the rendered image as changes are made to the Revit model or the V-Ray settings.

The Interactive renderer always runs in Progressive mode, an image sampling mode that progressively refines the image over time. The Production rendering mode switches between Progressive and Bucket image sampler. Unlike the Progressive image sampler, the Bucket one takes a variable number of samples per pixel depending on the difference in the intensity of the pixel, as result the image is rendered on small square portions (called "buckets").

Use V-Ray Swarm distributed rendering system or render in Chaos Cloud, as a complement to or a substitution of your usual render workflow.

Preview your projects in real time with V-Ray Vision, which provides better lighting and material representation as well as camera animation playback controls.

When rendering in Interactive mode in some specific cases and using the native Revit Undo/Redo command, the Interactive rendering stops and the Undo/Redo command has a priority.
