This page provides information on the Material Map tab in the V-Ray Asset Browser.

Overview
The material map tab allows you to replace the standard Revit materials with simple colors, simple textures, or more powerful and versatile V-Ray materials, including .vrscan files. This includes the ability to properly scale and rotate V-Ray materials and a quick link to the standalone VRMat Editor to edit them.

Search Bar and Filters
This allows you to search for the materials based on two options.
All – Allows you to choose from all materials in your library (includes defaults and materials in the project).
Project – Allows you to choose from all materials in your current Project.
Latest Render – Shows a list of all materials that were exported by V-Ray during the latest render you have done.
Mapping
This shows the materials based on three options.
All – Allows you to see all materials in your library (includes defaults and materials in the project).
Mapped – Allows you to see all materials that have been assigned a Diffuse Texture, V-Ray Material or Color.
AutoGen – Allows you to see all materials that are currently assigned an AutoGen material.
VRayMaterial – Allows you to see only those materials that are assigned with a V-Ray material.
Diffuse Texture – Allows you to see only materials that are assigned with a Diffuse Texture material.
Color – Allows you to see only materials that are assigned with a Color material.
Transparency
Allows you to filter the materials based on their transparency.
All – Allows you to see all materials, i.e. the Transparency filter is not applied.
Opauque – Allows you to see only the opaque materials in the project.
Transparent – Allows you to see only the transparent materials in the project.
Opaque and Transparent filters can be used as an alternative to the Global Overrides options, with the ability to exclude specific materials from the override.
AutoGen
This option looks at the parameters used to set up the Revit material and automatically generates a V-Ray counterpart at render time.
V-Ray materials are fundamentally different from Autodesk materials. Our materials are very close to the results found in Revit’s native renderers, but there will be some discrepancies.
VRayMaterial
References an external V-Ray Material file (.vrmat).
V-Ray Material – Filename currently selected. The browse button can be used to locate a file.
Edit V-Ray Material ( – Launches the material in V-Ray Standalone Material editor for editing. )
Sample Size Width – Similar to the Revit functionality, this specifies the width of the material.
Sample Size Height – Similar to the Revit functionality, this specifies the height of the material.
Rotation – Similar to the Revit functionality, this specifies the rotation in degrees of the material.
Diffuse Texture
Replaces the material with a simple texture.
Texture Name – Filename currently selected. The browse button can be used to locate a file.
Sample Size Width – Similar to the Revit functionality, this specifies the width of the texture.
Sample Size Height – Similar to the Revit functionality, this specifies the height of the texture.
Rotation – Similar to the Revit functionality, this specifies the rotation in degrees of the texture.
Color
Selects a simple color to replace the Revit material.
Color – Specifies a color using the color picker.
Transparency – Controls the transparency of the Color material, where 0 is non-transparent and 1 is entirely transparent.
Glossiness – Controls the glossiness of the Color material, where 1 is the maximum value.
Reflection – Controls the reflectivity of the Color material, where 0 is non-reflective surface and 1 is 100% reflective surface.
VRscan
You can load a VRscan material by selecting VRayMaterial from the drop down menu and picking a .vrscan file instead of a .vrmat one.
The VRscan material is supported under certain limitations in V-Ray for Revit.
You can only adjust the width, height and rotation of the material onto the object applied. No other functionalities of the material in V-Ray for Revit can be used for now.

Sample Size Width – Similar to the Revit functionality, this specifies the width of the texture.
Sample Size Height – Similar to the Revit functionality, this specifies the height of the texture.
Rotation – Similar to the Revit functionality, this specifies the rotation in degrees of the texture.
The .vrscan files are produced by Chaos Group's own internal material scanner and accompanying material creator software. The .vrscan files require a separate license to work correctly. Without a license, the material will not show its UI and will render with a watermark.
